Reach! students kicked off their own Winter Olympics yesterday during our opening ceremony. Thanks to Bob Luby, a long time Reach! volunteer whose wife, Suzy Luby (Corrock), competed in the 1972 Saporro, Japan Olympics and won the bronze medal for downhill skiing, students had a chance to "carry" a real Olympic torch, learn about the Sochi Winter Olympics, view a real Olympic medal, and participate in different events. Students will participate in the Reach! Olympic games for the next two weeks with closing ceremonies occuring on Feb. 24 when medals and prizes will be awarded to the top competitors. Students will have the opportunity to earn medals by competing in different events consisting of grades, school work, and attendance. This will be the second Olympics Games put on by Reach! We will see if Angelina and Edward have what it takes to defend their medals and titles as Reach! Olympians. Citius, Altius, Fortius (faster, higher, stronger)!
